Why Getronics?

Getronics sets itself apart from other ICT services companies because our success is inextricably tied to that of our public sector partners – in short, ‘we only succeed when we all succeed’.

There are a number of dimensions to Getronics’ Service Delivery Model that contribute to the delivery of successful IT services to the public sector:

Driving efficiencies

Benefit realisation

Accountability is at the heart of all we undertake and by sharing the risk with our public sector customers we are able to ensure that we give value, not take it away. With the public purse being stretched more now than it has been for many years, benefit realisation is key to delivering the best possible service within the allotted timeframe and budget, against a backdrop of technology innovation.

Collaborative approach

Getronics finds suppliers that are fit for purpose who, crucially, can work together and complement each other. By working collaboratively, Getronics is also able to undertake smaller projects that may not be cost effective for larger suppliers to take on. We are leaner, know where we can add value and can do so on large or small-scale projects. We are vendor independent, and so are free to develop relationships with hardware and software suppliers on merit, ensuring the best fit for our public sector customers

Private sector benefit transference

Getronics has an excellent track record of delivering services to the private sector, where over budget and overdue projects are not tolerated. We approach each project in the public or private sector with the same mindset – that success will only be achieved if both customer and supplier are fully committed to delivering agreed business outcomes.

We believe that the public sector is starting to adopt this same mindset – ensuring that all suppliers that contracts are awarded to are able to deliver projects to the same high standard that they would in the private sector. The public sector is not a second-class customer and should not be treated as one.

Shared services

Using its datacentres, Getronics delivers efficiencies to customers by enabling them to take a utility approach – IT when you need it, by taking a semi-shared approach. Shared services, therefore, should not be limited to the back office.

New breed of public sector supplier

If an additional £3.2 billion in efficiency savings from IT spend is to be delivered every year, then Government needs to embrace the opportunity to work with delivery partners outside its traditional sphere of operations. These ‘alternative’ suppliers can introduce a host of different qualities into the supply chain, adding to the gene pool of the relatively closed ecosystem of public sector procurement. Getronics is such a supplier that can bring innovative solutions, a longer term view of project delivery, greater accountability and, ultimately, a more progressive way of looking at public sector IT project delivery.

Budget assurance (contracting for outcomes)

Getronics understands that public sector customers increasingly require a service that is delivered with a fixed or even declining budget over time. By delivering this with an elastic and scalable service, Getronics can ensure that there are no surprises for its customers at a time when project delivery ‘failure’ is simply unacceptable.

Getronics can offer budgetary assurance to its public sector customers by:

  • Working with them to identify key targets and business outcomes, and sticking to them
  • Ensuring cost control is a central theme of project delivery. We deal with real money – there are no hidden costs or surprise inflationary rises
  • Committing to the client’s outcome of reducing costs – we only succeed if we all succeed
  • Providing ‘term-proof’ IT that can adapt to future changes in policy, priority or government. Potential cuts in budget are a reality that is dealt with by every public sector organisation in the UK. By keeping costs predictable our customers can plan more accurately for all eventualities

The longer-term view

Additionally, we are able to take a longer-term view of the delivery of projects – Getronics UK and Ireland is not a PLC and whilst we have the financial protection of the larger KPN group, we do not have to worry about the impact on stock value on a month-by-month basis. Getronics can commit people and capability for the duration of the project and give a fixed-cost forecast, even though the actual spend may be variable as project demands change. As a result we are able to hit longer-term KPIs and ensure that the best interests of our customers and the project are the priority, not the competing demands of shareholders.

It is clear that large-scale transformational projects such as Building Schools for the Future (BSF) would not be possible if companies were not able to undertake a longer-term approach to project delivery. The payouts for suppliers are not immediate and the revenue streams do not lend themselves to companies that are not able to think further ahead than the next quarter.

With zero tolerance for wastage in the public sector, the need for suppliers like Getronics who can take a longer-term view and share the risk of project-delivery with its customers, has never been more apparent.

Flexible and scalable

For all our customers in both the public and private sectors, we deliver simplified contract management, effective service evolution and responsive scaling to requirement, bringing cost savings by flexible services, control and balanced service levels.

We appreciate that plans and priorities can often change, and Getronics is flexible enough to work with our customers to ensure that we continue to focus on achieving agreed business outcomes, adapting as necessary.
