Data Centre Services: Security and Protection

  • 24 hour by 365 days on-site uniformed security presence located in a Central Security Office that has the ability to control access to the business park as well as the NDC.
  • No external windows or walls associated with machine room space, which together with the external landscaping, contributes to security from violent "ram raid" type attacks, and there is also no under floor access to machine room areas from general office areas.
  • CCTV coverage on all external points via 6 cameras, with another 25 throughout the business park. Images are constantly monitored from the Central Security Office which is situated within the office area of the data centre
  • In 2007 CCTV was enhanced by the addition of 35 internal cameras covering critical internal locations within the machine rooms and other areas. All images are recorded and retained for a minimum of a month, with the Central Security Office once again having the ability to monitor in real time.
  • There is a 3 level biometric access control system on all entrances and significant internal doors. Access to the building, together with the secure machine room areas, is controlled by full height turnstiles to prevent tailgating.
  • The building is zoned to ensure that only those individuals with a requirement and authorisation to enter secure areas can do so. Access to the rear loading bay is via an electrically operated sliding gate. Both the gate and the roller shutter to the loading bay area can only be opened from the Central Security Office. All external entrances/exits and the rear gate have direct contact with the Security Office.
  • The entire 56 acre business park is protected by an alarmed, patrolled fence. The data centre site is protected by a secure steel fence and a movement detection perimeter "fence" covers the entire perimeter of the building, together with sensors on all external doors and key internal doors.
  • The capability to monitor and operate the data centre remotely from the Getronics Business Continuity Facility (BCF) in Northamptonshire. The BCF is also available as a data centre in its own right, offering similar facilities to the NDC on a smaller scale, being ideal for backup or disaster recovery purposes.
  • Getronics’ Security Management System is accredited to the ISO 27001 Code of Practice for Information Security Management and ensures that the security of all aspects of Getronics’ operations, including information, is classified so compliance can be enforced and measured.
  • An effective Information Security Management System (ISMS) is recognised as a key tool from a hosting and managed service partner, and Getronics has used the detailed requirements specification of ISO 27001, for establishing and maintaining a documented ISMS.
  • The Getronics internal network is owned and controlled by the internal IT organisation. By design and strictly enforced policy, customer systems and networks are never directly connected to the Getronics internal network.
